Bring down tax on wireless data card: Analyst

The government is reportedly charging a ‘whopping’ 21 per cent tax on wireless data cards that allow computer users to access internet. This is when laptops in which the cards are used and the mobile phones that work on the same network, both attract a ‘mere’ 4 per cent.

“Such illogical levies are arguably the worst kind; they raise little revenue for the exchequer and discourage internet access at a time when usage is alarmingly below targets,” writes Mahesh Uppal, an independent telecom analyst, in Economic Times.
