T-Series issues notice to MSN, MySpace, Guruji for copyright infringement

17 July, 2008
Super Cassettes Industries (T-Series) has issued legal notices to a host of websites, including MSN, MySpace, Guruji and BharatStudent for copyright infringement. Earlier, the music company had sued YouTube and Yahoo for similar reasons, seeking a permanent injunction for the alleged dissemination and display of its copyright content on Yahoo Video and YouTube.

T-Series is arguing in court that MNCs such as YouTube and Yahoo cannot seek shelter under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act or DMCA. Its contention is that if the owner of the copyright is Indian, the Indian Copyright Act 1957 will come into play.

“It is my view that anyone who facilitates or provides a platform for others to upload illegal content that has been acquired without paying is equally guilty of the crime of copyright theft,” Neeraj Kalyan, VP, digital content, T-Series, has said. [Source: Economic Times]

A bunch of theives and plagiarists who've now started sending legal notices to companies who're trying to run legitimate businesses.

How the tables turn!

Wonder what moral ground they have to now do this... we all know how T-Series started...and how they made their millions.

I agree, T-series has nothing to do with, i guess. Anyways, i have seen these sites, probably, being the search engines, directing to sites is genuine and legal, they have not their own music servers, then whats the issues. T-series in that case should start their own search engines on music and then be happy.

T-series is crazy. They keep sending notices to every website on earth. I know of a portal that got a notice because they had plugged in Youtube videos which were not copyrighted. Instead of going after Youtube they are going after all sites in India.
