Online game subscriptions generate $1 billion a year in US

Online games are generating $1 billion a year in subscription revenue in US, according to market researcher NPD Group. Here online games include massively multiplayer online games, casual games, and online games played on consoles.

The NPD study also reveals that the majority of gaming website players in US are females over 35 years of age, while MMO players are largely males under age 35 and that an average of 11 million people subscribe to online games each month. [Source: VentureBeat, GameFocus]
